In line with this outstanding quote from UNESCO and our efforts to celebrate and promote Malaysia’s rich and diverse musical heritage, Penang House of Music brings to you ‘Reflections’ - a series of performances by young Malaysian musicians paying homage to the classics of Malaysian music.

From the patriotic tunes of Jimmy Boyle such as Putera Puteri in the 60s to the classic 70s tunes of Carefree such Belaian Jiwa, or Alleycats’ Senandung Semalam; onwards to Sheila Majid’s Sinaran in the 80s and Zainal Abidin’s 90s iconic tune, Hijau; along with the mesmerizing tune of the early 2000s, Jaclyn Victor’s Gemilang, Malaysia’s music industry has much to be honored.

This double bill showcase features accomplished Malaysian musicians performing re-arrangements of classic songs, composed by their Malaysian music heroes. Catch one of Malaysia’s top fingerstyle guitarist Az Samad performing a duet with Penang’s soulful vocalist Viv Adram as well as the versatile and vibrant Sabahan singer Andy Siti performing with The Jazz Coalition band of Penang.

This double bill showcase features accomplished Malaysian musicians performing re-arrangements of classic songs, composed by their Malaysian music heroes. This Merdeka day special will see Penang’s young musician group, Electrio Salmon inject their brand of vintage funk and rework pop into tunes of yesteryears alongside Penang’s very own beautiful and melodious songbird, Bihzhu, who will bring her signature harmonies and feel-good vibes to the show.
