The role of the radio in presenting, disseminating and influencing popular music was of paramount importance.

Radio played a huge role in the appreciation of music and in Penang, it began with the community-run Penang Wireless Society in 1925, before the British started Radio Malaya after the war.

In the 1950s, Rediffusion joined in the airwaves, while the ever popular Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) radio made its mark in the 1960s.
