Malaysian Vinyl Sleeves: A Visual Journey of 1950s til 1970s

Sunday, 14th July til 28th July 2019, | 11:00am to 7:00pm
Free Admission to Exhibition except for 21st of July.

"Celebrating Art Vinyl as a graphic medium and expression of cultural history, the exhibition pays tribute to the record as an audio-visual artwork with an array of vinyl sleeves with various design techniques from colourful prints, abstract, collages and photography.

Throughout the years, album art played a significant role in the promoting and selling of vinyls. The sleeve was used as an additional visual “marketing tool” with the hope of promoting or creating the image for the artist, song, product and/or event.

The exhibition showcases a selection of Malaysian vinyl sleeve covers from the 1950s to 1970s of the Penang House of Music Collection. It hopes to enable and educate its visitors to not only discover and appreciate the music of Malaya/Malaysia but also dive into the rich and wonderful history of Malaysian vinyl sleeve designs."

Exhibition is on from 14th July to 28th July at the Penang House of Music Black Box and entrance is free except for 21st of July.
